Meetings of the Plans and Public Health Committees of Aberdeen Town Council were held yesterday to consider the plans of the proposed new works to be erected near Kittybrewster for the Scottish Combworks Company, Limited. The Public Health Committee unanimously approved the plans, an amendment by Councillor Cooper not to sanction them not finding a seconder. The Plans Committee also sanctioned the plans. The works are to be situated on the vacant piece of ground lying between the Great North of Scotland Railway and Berryden Road. The principal access will probably be beside Powis Bridge, almost opposite the gate of Kittybrewster Rail by 32 feet. The main block will be utilised as granite ashlar, consisting of a main block 200 feet long and 158 feet wide, running east and west, and a wing parallel with it, measuring 143 feet by 32 feet. The main block will be utilised as the manufactory proper, and on its two floors will be situated large, commodious, and well ventilated apartments, in every way admirably adapted for the business of comb manufacture. On the ground floor of the smaller block will be a large warehouse, a caretaker’s house, and time-keeper’s apartments; while on the first floor will be situated the offices, the manager’s room, and packing department. The architect is G. Wilson, Aberdeen.
