ABERDEEN COMBWORKERS
PICNIC AT BANCHORY HOUSE
Through the kindness of Sir David Stewart, the grounds at Banchory house were thrown open to a large party of the employees of the Aberdeen Combworks Company Ltd., on Saturday afternoon. The picnickers numbered some 1200, and, favoured by delightful weather, they enjoyed themselves to the full in the spacious grounds. A large number of brakes, motor cars, etc. were requisitioned to convey the party to Banchory House. Refreshments were served on their arrival, and afterwards a splendid programme of games was entered upon. Numerous prizes were given by Sir David and the hostesses. The Oakbank brass and pipe band, which was in attendance, further contributed to the enjoyable nature of the proceedings.
A special item was a baby show, organised by Lady Reid and the Misses Stewart. Dr Stewart, London, acted as judge. Mr James Linton afterwards asked the company to thank the host and hostesses for the kindly interest they had all along displayed in the employees at the Hutcheon Street works. On the call of Mr Andrew Erskine, a special vote of thanks was accorded Lady Reid, Mrs Douglas Stewart, Mrs Stewart, wife of Dr Stewart, and the Misses Stewart for the exertions they had individually put forth that afternoon in seeing to the guests comfort and enjoyment.
