A letter dated 2nd June 1855 and subsequent quotation dated 6th June 1855, from the firm D & J Riddell (Watch and Clock Makers) of 43 St Nicholas Street in Aberdeen, discusses the purchase and implementation of a large striking clock for the Comb Works.
These are insurance and endownment documents from the 1850's, during the time of Messrs Stewart, Rowell Stewart & Co. The first document details buildings and contents insurance for the Hutcheon Street premises and totals £12,325, which (due to inflation) equates to approximately £1.3 million as at March 2024.
These documents dated 20th August 1855 show the valuation by an Assessor of the Burgh of Aberdeen Land and Heritages Valuation Office for a house at 85 Causewayend in Aberdeen and the works at Hutcheon Street in Aberdeen.
